Rick Ellis

I have been performing on stage since I was 6 years old ranging from singing in school talent shows, church choir, Children’s Community Theater and in high school was a member of Merritt Island High School’s Concert and Show Choir “Sound in Motion”. In 1987while in college I was a founding member of the Brevard Community College Music Express and was blessed to do a concert tour of Russia, Romania and Hungary in May 1990.

After college I was a Counselor at the US Space Camp in Titusville, Florida from 1991-1992 when I left to join the US Air Force stationed in Little Rock AFB, Arkansas where I was part of the base theater group and choreographed and was a featured performer in the original musical “Aquarius”.  Little Rock was also where I got the call sign “Radar”.

After I was discharged in 1996 I returned home to Merritt Island and before long the performing bug hit and I was asked to portray Judas in “The Living Last Supper” at Grace United Methodist Church I stayed in the role until the church ended the LLS Ministry 14 years later.

I started my DJ business, “Music Express DJ” in 2000 serving East Central Florida, in 2003 I became the first Mobile Video DJ in the area with the help of Promo Only! I actively DJed for 10 years and retired my headphones in late 2010.

I met Ryan and the crew on the 2005 DJ Cruise and volunteered to help with whatever he needed and he took me up on it! I became a part of his crew and for many years was “The Bookstore Guy” at the Mobile Beat Shows. I also wrote several articles for Mobile Beat throughout the years about such topics as Jukebox Musicals with an interview of Debbie Gibson, 25 years of Def Leppard’s Hysteria and remembrance articles for Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, and Dick Clark.

I live in Merritt Island, Florida on Florida’s east coast right next to Port Canaveral and Kennedy Space Center. I have one son Bryan age 22 and a rescue Chiweenie named Peanut. I work in the medical administration field for Health First.

So when you see me on the cruise just say Hi Radar! I’m looking forward to seeing old friends and making new ones, we’re gonna have a blast!
